The Georgetown Global Irish Studies Initiative was delighted to present the Washington D.C. premiere of the acclaimed documentary: “Gerry Adams: a Ballymurphy Man.”
The event took place on Thursday, November 13 from 5:15 – 8:00 PM in the New South Film Screening Classroom, Hilltop Campus. The screening was followed by a Q & A discussion with film director, Trisha Ziff.

About the film:
One of the most controversial and consequential public figures in modern Ireland, Gerry Adams’ storied career from street activist to peacemaker has shaped political change on the island for over half a century. In this landmark documentary, Gerry Adams breaks his silence on the histories and legacies of the Troubles, bringing the viewer on a compelling journey behind the scenes of the Northern Ireland peace process. From Belfast to London, Dublin to Washington DC, this intimate portrayal reveals, Gerry Adams remained a Ballymurphy man.
About the director:
Trisha Ziff is a documentary filmmaker and curator of photography and has worked in the visual arts for over thirty years. She is the recipient of many prestigious awards, from the Arts Council in the UK, NEA and NEH, Bertha Fund, California Humanities, Sundance Documentary Fund and FOPROCINE & EFICINE in Mexico. She is a Gulbenkian and Guggenheim scholar.
Her first film as producer was Oaxacalifornia (US/UK, 1995). In 2008, Ziff co-directed Chevolution, her opera prima for Netflix. Other credits include The Mexican Suitcase (2011); The Man Who Saw Too Much (2015), winner of Best Documentary and Best Score at the Arieles and the Press Award at Morelia Film Festival; and Witkin & Witkin (2018), nominated for an Ariel.
