The Global Irish Studies Initiative is excited to offer Faculty Research Fellowship opportunities. Applications for the 2025-2026 academic year are now open!

About the Fellowships: We welcome applications from full-time or part-time faculty in any of Georgetown University’s schools and colleges for grants of $2,000 to support:

  • An ongoing or new research project that relates to, takes place in, or involves collaboration with colleagues in, Ireland north or south. This can include travel, hiring a research assistant, paying for editing, or any other related expense
  • Course development- if you plan to develop a new course or expand a course offering that deals in whole or in part with Ireland
  • Curriculum enrichment- if you are teaching a class and would like funds to support a class outing, a visiting speaker, or some other curriculum enrichment programme
  • Research by a student (grad or undergrad) of yours whose work, in part or in whole related to Ireland, could benefit from extra resources
  • Enrolling a student (grad or undergrad) in a skills enhancement course, including summer school or language school
  • Any other legitimate research or teaching purpose

Additional Details: GIS will provide Faculty Fellows with a stipend of $2,000 to support their research. The funds can only be disbursed as expenses, not as a salary supplement. Ideally, we would be able to share with you out Work Tags, which you can ask your administrator to use to pay for the expense. The funds must be used in FY 26 (ending 30 June 2026). If you know of colleagues who could benefit from this opportunity, please feel free to share this call for proposals.

Deadline: October 1, 2025

Requirements: You must be a Georgetown University faculty member, based on any of our campuses.

How To Apply: Please submit a 1-page narrative proposal, along with a short budget to globalirishstudies@georgetown.edu.
