Friday, April 26, 2024, 5:30pm to 7:00pm, in the Murray Room, 5th Floor of Lauinger Library.
Prof. Geraldine Higgins (Emory University) specializes in twentieth-century Irish literature and culture, modern British literature, archival studies and public exhibitions. She is the Director of Emory’s Irish Studies Program and of the Richard Ellmann Lectures in Modern Literature, and has curated the Seamus Heaney exhibition at the National Library of Ireland. Higgins’s research focuses on the Irish Revival and on literature connected to the thirty-year Irish conflict known as the Troubles. Anchored by Ireland’s two Nobel poet laureates, W.B. Yeats and Seamus Heaney, her publications examine the connections between art and violence, literature and history, and poetry and popular culture.
About the exhibition: This exhibition of rare and first edition Paul Muldoon books is available for viewing until May 31 on the fifth floor of Lauinger Library, adjacent to the Booth Family Center for Special Collections. The exhibition of books and other items, donated by neighbor and friend Joseph M. Hassett, covers Muldoon’s earliest works all the way to his most recent. It offers a visually stunning odyssey through 50 years of the Pulitzer-prize-winning (and current Ireland Professor of Poetry) poet’s work. The exhibition is curated by recent graduate Chris Kenny, who began this pursuit while working on his master’s in the English Department at Georgetown. Read more about what brought Chris to Muldoon’s poetry and the collection itself.
This event was free and open to the public. If you wish to make a donation to support the Global Irish Studies series of free lectures and seminars, it will be gratefully received. Please go to our Giving page to make a tax-free donation or click on the button below.
