Georgetown University Global Irish Studies, in association with the Embassy of Ireland and the American Conference for Irish Studies, hosted:
New Directions in Irish Literature: a celebration of two major new publications from Cambridge University Press
2020 has seen the publication of two signature interventions in the field of Irish Studies–the 6-volume Irish Literature in Transition (1700-2020) series, and The New Irish Studies, both from Cambridge University Press. Four of the editors of these field-defining volumes will join us to discuss how and why they set a new agenda for the study of Irish culture in the twenty-first century. The conversation was moderated by Prof. Cóilín Parsons of the Georgetown University Department of English and featured:
- Prof. Claire Connolly, University College Cork–General Editor of Irish Literature in Transition
- Prof. Marjorie Howes, Boston College–General Editor of Irish Literature in Transition
- Prof. Paige Reynolds, College of the Holy Cross–Co-editor of Volume 6 (1980 to 2020) of Irish Literature in Transition and editor of The New Irish Studies
- Prof. Eric Falci, University of California, Berkeley–Co-editor of Volume 6 (1980 to 2020) of Irish Literature in Transition
This event was the second in a new series, “The Ambassador’s Hour,” recognizing outstanding work in the field of Irish Studies and featured opening remarks by Ambassador Daniel Mulhall of the Embassy of Ireland.
